Scanning - Garbage In > Garbage Out

One of the most important steps of fine art digital reproduction is the scanning. The materials used in the scanning process are almost as important as the equipment used to do the scan. At Kolibri Art Studio we always advise the client that the best thing to do is to scan the original artwork. Scanning the originals give us the first generation of color and maximum amount of detail, giving us the opportunity to provide the very best and accurate reproduction of the artwork.

All of our original scans are done with a trusted third-party company with whom we have dealt for the last 11 years since Kolibri Digital Connection's conception. Their scans are the best anyone will be able to find anywhere in the world. You may think it's buyist of me to say so, but this company has developed their own scanner and color management software especially for the fine art world and for the last 11 years I haven't found anything that could beat their quality.

We also offer transparency scans at Kolibri Art Studio. With our color management workflow and our Scitex EverSmart Pro scanner we able to achieve incredible results from 4" x 5" or 8" x 10" transparencies.

When getting your transparencies done, please make sure that before you leave the photo lab, they match your artwork in color and details (I've seen many fuzzy ones) as much as possible. As I say in the heading: garbage in, garbage out. If your transparency is a bad reproduction of your artwork and that's what we will scan to reproduce it, the results will not be satisfactory not matter what we try to do in Photoshop to try to fix it.
